Get well... soon...
I had my lasik done on Wednesday. The thing was, I felt sick on Monday and Tuesday, and with the medical leave from Lasik, I was officially off from work for 1 week!!! Yipppeeee!!! Anyhow, went back to work on Tuesday afternoon and stayed till almost 8pm. Needed to make a counselling call to one of my Vietnamese student's parents, whose son committed suicide (I mentioned in one of the earlier entries). Came back, so tired, and jittery of the next day's operation - well, truth be told, I've never ever been in any kinds of operations before so you know why I had butterflies in my stomach!!!!
My parents accompanied me to the hospital that day. Mom told me later on both of them were equally scared - lot's of "what if"s in their minds too. My appointment was at 11.30am, but not until 12.45pm I was called into the surgery theatre. Some more tests before the op, and sterilising the eyes area was done before I could get inside. At this point, my glasses were taken away, so I was partially blind (ie. couldn't see anyone's face clearly). Even when the nurse briefed me on the post-op care, I was not so sure which is which (cos there were a few different type of drops, which I couldn't see the labels clearly; and the sedative they gave me started to take effect). So well, off to the operation theatre. The surgeon was nice, he kept saying it would be ok, it would be over before I knew it. I remember the red light blinking continuously, the semi darkness (which I thought they turned off the light for the op but it was actually because the flip my eye open at that time, hehhe); the suction and pressure on your eyes, the countdown of the nurses, the burning smell from my own eyes. And then it was over - Just before I knew it!!!! One thing I knew for sure that during the procedure I held my breath so hard, that when he said, "Done" I was shaking all over, for lacking of breath!!!!
When stepping of the surgey bed, my vision was blurry, but surprisingly clearer than before already. It was amazing. They led me to the recoery area and I dozed off a bit there (around 20 mins or so). Then another test from the doctor and he declared the operation was a successful one, and that I should go back, sleep off the discomfort, use more eye drops and come back to see him tomorrow.
That afternoon till the next day was quite blurry to me - too much sedative, and I was sleeping and awaken to put eye drops every hours by lovely Mom (though she mis-read the dropping time, heheh). That night both of them bunked in with me, in case I need anything , and I wore the eye shield (given by the doctor) to sleep.
We went back to see the doctor the next day, earlier than his appointment, cos I felt something lumpy over my left eye, since yesterday afternoon. The right eye was perfect. After the doctor checked and checked and checked, he said, there was nothing inside and concluded that it could be because of dryness and asked me to put more eye drops.
We went to see my Godma afterwards to tell her our intention. It was emotional, and, despite me just having the op, cried like a baby - my Mom cried too, and my Godma's eyes are also red.... How I love them!!! Thank God for giving me such wonderful Godmother during my years here in Singapore. Without her I will be so lost. She approved of the idea and gave her blessings. I'm so grateful to her.
Maybe it was because of the cry, when I got home, the lumpy feeling is gone...
So it hurts, but if it's needed to be done, it has to be done. Sometimes, things will get better that way.
Many colleagues sms-ed and wished me a good operation. Thank you, all. And I received a beautiful vase of flowers from a faraway friend!!!! What a lovely surprise!!!! Thanks for the thought and the care - I'm so grateful to you all!!!!
